BIO

Kenny Frechette (they/he)

I am an independent dance & performing artist based in Portland, Oregon. Over the past decade I’ve spent my time training and engaging with dance/movement communities in Portland, Seattle, New York City, Florida, and Europe.

My most recent projects include creation of a solo in residency at New Expressive Works (Portland, OR), dance films, festival performances, and experimental theatre. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Dance Studies from the University of Florida, with foundational training in both dance and theatre techniques / processes.

Very Queer – Very Gay – Very Grateful.

My roots, and a sizable chunk of my heart, lie in Florida / The South. My work as an artist, as well as the ways I move through the world as a human and advocate, continue to be shaped by my connection to my first home.

My artistic life has become more consistent and sustainable in the past few years. I teach regularly and maintain an active presence in the Portland dance community. I’m curious to create more work, hungry to perform / work on projects, and always looking for more opportunities to teach.

As I evolve my dance practice I plan to continue deepening my roots in Portland while also spending periods of time in other dance ecosystems to collaborate, teach, & train. Partly because I’m a migratory creature at heart, but also with the aim of being a connector between different dance communities. To foster greater solidarity and artistic exchange between various regions of the country. I’m passionate about investing in regional / local art. It is key to a more vital, dimensional, and interconnected arts landscape in the US (and beyond).
